So this is the New Year...

So I was hoping my New Years Eve would turn out something like this:

But instead it ended up being more like this:

I ended up sleeping through midnight due to the amazing Theraflu. Luckily, I am feeling A LOT better - though a little bummed I missed out on food and fireworks Saturday night.

Inspired by Mandy's awesome card, posted over at Dash It All, I've decided 2012 will be the year of firsts, fun, frugality, fitness, faithfulness, festivities, friendship and fabulousness! Notice there is no mention of the flu - let's keep it that way, 2012 :).

What Are You Doing for New Years?

I'm guessing some of you may have already heard this duet from the adorable Zooey Deschanel and Joe Gordon-Levitt. It poses an excellent question - what are you doing for New Years? Hunter and I are doing fireworks and food with some friends on New Years Eve, but afterward? This year we are super motivated. And we have the gym passes to prove it ("thank you" - my pants). But, seriously, I'm pumped to take on my New Years resolutions with full force, even if I only end up doing them for a month. At least I'll have a really good month, rightt??? To celebrate this new found spirit, I'd like to reflect on the top posts Amarillo y Crema had to offer this year:

5. Paris in the 1920s: More than one of us was a fan of the fashions sparked by this summer's "Midnight in Paris". I'm seeing tons of dropped-waist dresses in the stores.

4. 4th of July and Two Years and Counting...: I received some sweet comments/tweets while documenting DC's favorite holiday and Hunter and my two year anniversary. Makes me excited for next year's highlights and milestones.

3. Loving Orla Kiely: Lets face it - we are all loving Orla Kiely!

2. The Marriage Telegram: Looks like I'm not the only one in for a "swinging time".

1. Rita Konig Style: Now this post took a long time to put together. But was it worth it? Yes, it was - according to my lovely readers, such as yourself. Who doesn't love a girl who makes her own illustrated fireplace (pssstt... check out this new to me photo).

Here's to another year of great posts! Have a Happy New Year everybody!

Happy Holidays!

I love this letter to Santa, found here. The consideration for Santa's difficult job is so sweet. Right now we're in California celebrating Christmas with some family and friends. I know I've been such an inconsistent blogger lately, and I apologize! I'll be much better next year. May you all have a happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.!

This is my winter song to you

So I guess today is the first day of winter. Currently listening to "Winter Song" by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Micaelson and loving the A/W 2011 lookbook from Sally Scott. Makes me want to go ice skating. Keep warm!

love ever after

To celebrate love today, you should go through this sweet photo series by Lauren Fleishman on couples who have been married for fifty years or more. It's funny, sweet and touching all at the same time.

Seven Days of Hot Chocolate

It's pretty cold here in Washington, DC. Meaning... I really appreciate the "Seven Days of Hot Chocolate" series over at Knitted Bliss. Not only do the recipes look delicious, but the mugs she uses are pretty awesome, too. My favorite so far is the Banana Hot Chocolate. Check it out:

Ever heard of thundersnow?

Yeah, me neither. Until I had to walk from the metro to my apartment in it yesterday. It was not as fun as this snowball fight in Dupont Circle, but still kind of cool to say I walked home in "thundersnow". Luckily I did not lose power, but I did lose internet connection (which is why there aren't my usual posts today). Hope you all are warm, wherever you are!

Three more weeks...

So, taken ladies, do you guys do Valentine's Day gifts? We had a bit of a misunderstanding one year. Hunter got me a really nice and thoughtful gift and all I got him was a card. I don't think he cared too much since Valentine's Day is mostly for the girls, but I was kind of embarrassed. Anyway, I really love these cards from The Rifle Paper Co. They make me excited for the big day, which is in only three weeks!

Do you want the good news or the bad news?

The bad news (I always think bad news is better first):

Now for the good news:

The Things That are Tiny blog has made its way into my life (thanks Tina).

P.S. I just heard here that they are diverting from the book in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2 - but with J.K Rowling's permission. Harry Potter fans, what do you think?

Happy Weekend!

This has been a great week, especially for the blog. Thank you to all of you for taking the time to visit. This weekend, Hunter and I are headed up to New York City to spend time with my little sister Amy, who is there on a school trip. We plan on doing lots of shopping, eating and sight seeing. Have a wonderful Martin Luther King Jr. day - see you all on Tuesday!

Chewing the Cud

I wish I remembered these pretty fabric gift wraps at Chewing the Cud during the holiday season. I always feel sad throwing away pretty paper, and these are easier to reuse - so it's really like two gifts in one.

Happy New Year!

We are back in DC safe and sound, and no, the city looks nothing like this photo from New York City. But doesn't she look like she's having fun? Have a Happy New Year!

Ugly Christmas Sweater T-Shirt

I got this Ugly Christmas Sweater T-shirt for Christmas and immediately changed to wear it for the rest of the day. If this doesn't get you in the Christmas spirit, there is no hope for you. I love it! Thanks, Hunter! Also, another awesome t-shirt that is unfortunately unavailable :(.

Snowmageddon Strikes Again?!

So airports surrounding Washington, DC and the general east coast completely shut down due to a snow storm this week. Meaning, our flight home was cancelled this morning. We opted out of sleeping at the airport in either SLC or Denver (that's what an airline lady recommended), and drove down to Provo to hang out with my grandma and grandpa. Hopefully everything will clear up by Tuesday afternoon, since that's the earliest they could do!

Merry Christmas!

This is Hunter celebrating Christmas in Guatemala in either 2004 or 2005. It makes me laugh! We are currently in Texas with Hunter's family and will be spending Christmas in the Anderson family cabin (built by his great-great-grandfather, Lewis R. Anderson) near Fish Lake in Central Utah - it will truly be a white Christmas! So - may everyone have a wonderful winter break and a happy holiday!
